A workshop to discuss the Health of migrants and refugees from Eastern Europe in Germany was held in Berlin

On October 27, 2023, a workshop “The Health of Migrants and Refugees from Eastern Europe: access to treatment and services in Germany” took place in Berlin at Deutsche AIDS Hilfe (DAH). The workshop was organized by Krystyna Rivera, REG national coordinator for Germany and Ukraine, with the support of Deutsche AIDS Hilfe and the Vidnova program.

The participants discussed barriers and the coping strategies to overcome them in relation to access to healthcare in Germany for people living with HIV, people who need substitution therapy, and trans people who need hormone therapy.

The meeting participants represented German HIV organizations – the AIDS Hilfe network, Vista Berlin drug addiction support, representatives of the sex workers’ organization Hydra, and migrant/refugee community organizations – PlusUkrDe, BerLUN, 100%Life Germany and others.

At the workshop, REG project coordinator Zinaida Abrosimova presented the REG study on the access of Ukrainian migrants to healthcare in Europe. REG researcher and head of the #HelpNOW project in GErmany Oksana Savenko spoke about the activities and results of the project.

The result of the meeting will be recommendations and guidelines for future migrants from EECA countries who are planning to move to Germany.
